Is your organisation
ready for systematic AI maturity?
This toolkit helps leadership teams move beyond surface AI towards a systematic AI that is embedded and governed.
Complete the Self Assessment
Rate 20 statements across five capability domains. Score what is happening today — not what is planned or intended.
- Strategy & Leadership
- Data & Infrastructure
- Workflow Integration
- Governance & Risk
- Operations & Scale
Score Current State (1–5)
Use this yardstick for every statement:
Not built
Pilot only
Defined, limited
Operational
Institutionalized
If unsure, score lower. Overestimating reduces diagnostic value.
Set a 12-Month Target
Reflect what you can realistically achieve given budget, leadership commitment, and technical feasibility. The Target column answers one question: How much deeper do we expect this capability to be embedded within 12 months?
- Be conservative — stretch targets reduce focus
- Discuss targets with functional leads
- The gap is more valuable than the number
Review Dashboard & Roadmap
Your scores generate a live Executive Dashboard and a prioritised Roadmap. Use these to drive leadership discussion — not just scoring.
- Maturity stage detection
- Systematic vs Surface indicator
- Readiness risk scoring
- Downloadable PDF report
Surface AI vs Systematic AI
Surface AI — Where Most Orgs Are
- Tools and Copilots deployed ad-hoc
- Isolated pilots with no scale path
- Automation overlays on old workflows
- No consistent governance or oversight
- Impact not measurable at enterprise level
Systematic AI — Where Leaders Are Going
- Embedded into core operational workflows
- Governed, auditable, and compliant
- Measured for real business impact
- Scalable and reusable across the enterprise
- Workflows redesigned, not just automated
Maturity Stage Ladder
AI is mostly experimental. Teams explore tools independently. Score ≤ 35.
No consistent methodology. Budget allocated to "try AI". No governance.
AI delivers value in pockets. Functional deployment exists. Score 36–60.
Surface score > Structural score. Governance minimal or absent.
AI embedded in workflows. Governance structures in place. Score 61–85.
Structural score ≥ Surface score. Enterprise roadmap exists and is funded.
AI institutionalized enterprise-wide. Measurable impact. Score > 85.
Full governance, continuous monitoring, quantified business impact. Reusable AI capabilities across all functions.
Working with your leadership team
For best results, have at least two functional leaders complete the assessment independently, then compare. Disagreement between scores is not a problem — it is the most valuable data. The discussion it sparks is the point. Focus particularly on Workflow Integration and Governance, as these are where structural depth is built or missing.
