How to Build Your Coupon
- Click Content.
- Select the Live Content folder.
- Select the Coupons subfolder.
- Click Create.
- Enter the name you used for the email message.
- Enter an external key in the External Key field. Note Use this key to uniquely identify the coupon.
- Enter a description for your coupon.
- Choose the appropriate coupon code in the Coupon Code Type dropdown list. Use various classes of 2D coupon codes, coupon codes, or just-rendered code text that serves as a coupon code. - To include a checksum in the coupon, click Include checksum.
- Select the type of coupon code you wish to use: Inventory-Based: Upload a set of coupon codes into a data extension and select that data extension in the window below the Coupon Code section. The subscriber receives the same coupon code each time the email message is rendered.Segment-Based: Upload a set of coupon codes into a data extension and associate those codes with a subscriber key. Select that data extension in the window below the Coupon Code section. The subscriber receives the same coupon code each time the email message is rendered.Transaction-Based: Upload a set of coupon codes into a data extension and associate those codes with a transaction key. Select that data extension in the window below the Coupon Code section. The subscriber receives the appropriate coupon code or series of codes for each transaction. Using this method, subscribers can claim multiple coupon codes per transaction.

- Segment-Based: Upload a set of coupon codes into a data extension and associate those codes with a subscriber key. Select that data extension in the window below the Coupon Code section. The subscriber receives the same coupon code each time the email message is rendered.
- Transaction-Based: Upload a set of coupon codes into a data extension and associate those codes with a transaction key. Select that data extension in the window below the Coupon Code section. The subscriber receives the appropriate coupon code or series of codes for each transaction. Using this method, subscribers can claim multiple coupon codes per transaction.
- Select the data extension containing the coupon code information in the Coupon Code Data Extension field.
- Select the optional data extension to contain coupon redemption information in the Redemption field.
- Choose the text to accompany your coupon image in the Coupon DisplayText dropdown menu:CouponCode - Include the information in the CouponCode field of the Coupon Code data extensionCouponCodeAlternateText - Include the information in the CouponCodeAlternateText field of the Coupon Code data extensionNone - Do not include any coupon display text.
- CouponCode - Include the information in the CouponCode field of the Coupon Code data extension
- CouponCodeAlternateText - Include the information in the CouponCodeAlternateText field of the Coupon Code data extension
- None - Do not include any coupon display text.
- To active your coupon offer on a certain date, select Begin on and select the date and time in the calendar controls.
- To end your coupon offer on a certain date, select End and select the date and time in the calendar controls.Note If you do not specify a start and stop date, the application doesn’t render coupons asexpired after your promotion ends. Change the expiration date at any time and affect allcoupons in the offer, including coupons already sent.
- Click Change in the Image Properties section to select the images used in your coupon offer:Displayed for preview in editor: Use this image as a placeholder when designing your email or previewing it in the editor.Displayed for invalid requests: This image displays when the coupon offer contains no more coupon codes to offer a recipient.Displayed for expired requests: This image displays if the subscriber opens the email after the coupon expires.

- Specify the size of the image in pixels in the Width (px) x Height (px) fields.
- Specify the font size to use for the bar code text in the Font Size field.
- Enter the alt text of the coupon code image in the alt attribute field.
- Select Use Microsite Page to enable a text email to render a link to a microsite URL where the coupon resides. If you select this option, a Site dropdown list appears, allowing you to specify a microsite and corresponding landing page.To embed a URL in your text email, enter this format somewhere within your email message where you reference the coupon: %%=LiveContentMicrositeURL(LiveContentType, ExternalKey)=%%For example, if you have a coupon with an external key of September Offer, embed the following in the text version of your email:%%=LiveContentMicrositeURL('Coupon', 'SeptemberOffer')=%%

- To use a different data extension for coupon codes as part of a test send, selectTest Coupon Code Data Extension and select the data extension in the field.
- To use a different expiration date as part of a test send, select ExpirationDate and select the date in the calendar fields.
