1. Make your Smart Selection.
2. Click on the pink ring on the center of an object in order to mark it. Hold down [Shift] and click on another object to mark it.
3. Delete the marked objects by pressing the "delete" or "backspace" key on the keyboard.
4. The other objects in the Selection will then move to fill the gap.
